Singer and actor Park Yoo-chun shared his thoughts on the drama “The Girl Who Sees Smells” at a press conference at a Coffeesmith cafe on Teheran-ro Street in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Park was joined by co-stars Shin Se-kyung, Nam Goong-min, and Yoon Jin-seo.

“This was the first drama where I really let myself go, thanks to the comic scenes,” he said, laughing. “I felt a bit of pressure at first because I read the script and realized that I had to make it really funny.”

In the drama, Park plays a policeman who has no sensory feeling. After he loses his younger sister in an accident known as the “bar code murder case,” he meets a survivor of the same case, a girl who can “see” smells (played by Shin Se-kyung) who helps him track down the killer.

In addition to the comedy, Park’s role required him to perform action and romance scenes, and his strong character spawned a variety of nicknames for the actor.

When asked about which was his favorite, he said, “I’m grateful for all of them, because the fact that people are giving me nicknames means that they‘re showing interest.”

“I heard people say that they wanted to have an older brother like my character. That was really nice to hear,” he added.

With regard to the type of acting he wanted to try in the future, he said, “Kwon Jae-hee,” referring to co-star Nam Goong-min’s serial killer character.

“I was monitoring the show at home, and I saw a scene where Jae-hee suddenly shows his evil side, and he has an evil glint in his eyes,” he said. “I thought that was amazing, and I was envious. I want to try something like that someday.”

“The Girl Who Sees Smells” has already broadcast 12 of 16 episodes, and has just two weeks until the finale. It airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 p.m. on SBS.

“I hope that we can wrap up the show well, and all get a drink afterwards with smiles on our faces,” he said. “I hope that in the remaining four episodes, I‘ll get another chance to show you my (comic acting).”
